Geschiedenis

Bratislava's strategic location on the Danube River has shaped its long history. Settlements here date back to the Stone Age, with Celtic and Roman influences. The dramatic ruins of Devín Castle stand at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers, marking a site occupied since the Bronze Age and significant during the Great Moravian Empire.

From the 16th to the 18th century, Bratislava served as the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary. Many Hungarian kings were crowned in the city's cathedral during this period. The city later became a key center within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Bratislava became the capital of independent Slovakia, blending its rich past with a modern European identity.
