Crete’s coastline features diverse geological formations, from the turquoise lagoon and white shell sands of Balos to the unique Cretan date palm forest at Vai. The southwestern coast is home to Elafonisi’s pink-tinted shores and the ancient juniper groves of Kedrodasos. South of Rethymno, beaches like Triopetra are defined by massive rock formations, while the Matala region offers the secluded Red Beach with its distinctive ochre sands and limestone cliffs.
