Alpine Huts & Shelters
This collection features essential mountain refuges and high-altitude shelters situated throughout the Julian Alps near Kranjska Gora. These sites range from the highest meteorological station in Slovenia at Kredarica to historic huts along the Vršič Pass. Many serve as critical base camps for climbing Mount Triglav or exploring the Vrata, Krma, and Tamar valleys. These facilities provide dormitory-style lodging and traditional alpine dining at altitudes reaching up to 2,515 meters.
A Poštarski dom na Vršiču
Mountain hut situated at 1,688 meters on the Vršič Pass. Originally established as a post office shelter, it serves as a starting point for trails to Prisojnik and Mojstrovka.
B Triglav Lodge at Kredarica
The Triglav Lodge at Kredarica is the highest mountain hut in Slovenia and the highest meteorological station in the country.
C Erjavčeva koča
Alpine hut located at 1,525 meters on the road to the Vršič Pass. Named after naturalist Fran Erjavec, it offers views of the Heathen Maiden rock formation.
D Tičarjev dom na Vršiču
Located at 1,620 meters on the Vršič Pass, this hut is named after Dr. Josip Tičar, a founding member of the Slovenian Mountaineering Society.
E Dom Valentina Staniča pod Triglavom
High-altitude hut at 2,332 meters on the plateau between Begunjski vrh and Visoka Vrbanova špica. Named after mountaineering pioneer Valentin Stanič.
F Pogačnikov dom na Kriških Podih
Situated at 2,050 meters on the Kriški podi karst plateau. It sits near three high-altitude glacial lakes: Spodnje, Srednje, and Zgornje Kriško jezero.
G Koča v Krnici
Located at 1,113 meters in the Krnica valley, this hut is surrounded by the limestone walls of Razor, Prisojnik, and Škrlatica.
H Kovinarska koča
Situated at 870 meters in the Krma Valley, this hut serves as a primary starting point for the longest and easiest ascent to Mount Triglav.
I Planinski dom Tamar
Located at 1,108 meters at the head of the Tamar Valley. The hut sits near the source of the Nadiža stream and the Planica ski jumping hills.
