Gran Canaria’s markets range from historic 19th-century food halls in Las Palmas to traditional Sunday gatherings in the central highlands. The city markets of Vegueta and Mercado Central offer extensive selections of Canarian produce, fresh Atlantic seafood, and tropical fruits. In the mountain villages of Teror and San Mateo, weekly markets specialize in regional delicacies including artisanal cheeses, honey, and the famous soft chorizo de Teror, often set against the backdrop of historic colonial architecture.

Vegueta Market

Established in 1863, this is the oldest market in the Canary Islands. Located in the historic Vegueta district, the stalls specialize in exotic tropical fruits, local cheeses, and traditional produce within a neoclassical stone building.

Held every Sunday surrounding the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, this traditional market is famous for local specialties like soft chorizo de Teror, sweet morcilla, and traditional pastries made by the local Cistercian nuns.

Mercado Central

The largest municipal market in Las Palmas, featuring two floors of vendors. It provides a comprehensive selection of fresh Atlantic fish, regional meats, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables sourced from across the island.
