Beaches and Cliffs

Portimão’s coastline is defined by the contrast between wide sandy stretches and jagged limestone cliffs. This selection includes the expansive Praia da Rocha, home to the 17th-century Fortress of Santa Catarina, and the more secluded Praia João de Arens, accessible via clifftop paths. The area is characterized by distinctive geological features, such as the sea stacks at Praia dos Três Castelos and the protective breakwater at Praia do Molhe, which marks the entrance to the Arade River. These beaches offer a mix of sheltered coves and open Atlantic shoreline.

Praia do Vau

Situated at the mouth of the Arade River, this beach is defined by a long stone breakwater and a small lighthouse marking the harbor entrance.
