Portimão’s coastline is defined by the contrast between wide sandy stretches and jagged limestone cliffs. This selection includes the expansive Praia da Rocha, home to the 17th-century Fortress of Santa Catarina, and the more secluded Praia João de Arens, accessible via clifftop paths. The area is characterized by distinctive geological features, such as the sea stacks at Praia dos Três Castelos and the protective breakwater at Praia do Molhe, which marks the entrance to the Arade River.
