Historic Churches

Porto Venere’s religious heritage is anchored by the 12th-century Church of San Pietro, a Romanesque-Gothic structure built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Gulf of Poets. The collection includes the Romanesque Church of San Lorenzo, which houses the miraculous White Madonna painting, and the 15th-century Sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie, notable for its former Olivetan monastery. These sites illustrate the region's maritime history and the transition from early medieval fortifications to coastal sanctuaries characterized by distinctive Genoese striped masonry.
