The Sognefjord region preserves a high concentration of Norway’s medieval architecture and ancient monuments. This collection features 12th-century stave churches like Hopperstad and Kaupanger, alongside Hove Church, one of the country's oldest stone structures. Beyond ecclesiastical history, the list includes the Baldersteinen—Norway's tallest standing stone—and coastal fortifications at Kirkeøen. These sites span from the Iron Age and the Icelandic sagas to 19th-century octagonal wooden designs.
