Historic Churches of Spoleto

Spoleto’s religious landscape features exceptional examples of Romanesque architecture and early medieval design. The collection includes two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the 4th-century Basilica of San Salvatore and the Tempietto del Clitunno. The 12th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta houses frescoes by Filippo Lippi, while the high-altitude Franciscan sanctuary at Monteluco offers insight into the region's spiritual history. These sites range from ancient churches located outside the city walls to serene monastic retreats nestled in the surrounding Umbrian hills.
