Religious Landmarks

Northern Portugal’s religious landscape features a dense concentration of historical sanctuaries, cathedrals, and monasteries. This collection includes the UNESCO-listed Bom Jesus do Monte with its monumental Baroque stairway and the 11th-century Braga Cathedral, the oldest in the country. Visitors can explore the pre-Romanesque Chapel of São Frutuoso, the hilltop Marian shrine of Sameiro, and the Romanesque Monastery of Santa Maria de Pombeiro.
