Vosges Square

Local namePlace des Vosges
Location4th arrondissement of Paris, France

Built by the famous Henri IV of France, this square is living up to its name. All of its sides are exactly 140 metres long, making it very symmetrical and pleasing for the eyes.

The square was finished in 1612. Initially bearing the name Place Royale, it served as a ground for frequent tournaments, which became fatal for Henri II, who died at one of them. It was renamed to Place des Vosges in reaction to the department of Vosges being the first one to pay taxes supporting a campaign of the Revolutionary army.

You can meet all sorts of people here, from lovers, to tourists, and kids playing football. It is one of the few places where you are allowed to sit on the grass and relax. The square provides a nice escape from the noisy and busy streets of Paris, while being within reach of the bustling centre.

Come here when you get tired from shopping at the stores near this location and you need a nice and quaint place to gather your thoughts. You will not be disappointed by the aesthetic look of this historic piece of art.

The nearest metro stations are Saint-Paul (1), Chemin Vert (8) and Bréguet - Sabin (5).
