Historical Gems

Skopje's architectural landscape spans centuries, from the 6th-century defensive walls of the Skopje Fortress to the sprawling 12th-century Old Bazaar, the largest Ottoman marketplace in the Balkans outside Istanbul. Religious heritage is showcased through the 15th-century Mustafa Pasha’s Mosque and the modern rotunda-style St. Clement of Ohrid cathedral. The city’s skyline is further defined by the Porta Macedonia memorial arch and the 66-meter-tall Millennium Cross on Mount Vodno, which serves as a significant viewpoint for the entire Skopje valley.

Mustafa Pasha's Mosque

Historic 15th-century Ottoman mosque featuring a 16.3-meter dome and a well-preserved original structure. Built in 1492, the site includes a tomb, a fountain, and a rose garden.

St. Clement of Ohrid

Largest cathedral of the Macedonian Orthodox Church featuring a modern rotunda design with large domes and arches. Consecrated in 1990, the building is known for its significant interior frescoes and icons.

Porta Macedonia

Porta Macedonia is a memorial arch located on Pella Square in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Millennium Cross

66-meter tall steel monument and cross built in 2002 to commemorate two millennia of Christianity. It serves as a 360-degree viewpoint overlooking the city and surrounding mountains.

Skopje Fortress

Historic fortification and archaeological site with roots dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. It features defensive structures from the 6th century and offers panoramic views of the city and river.

Old Bazaar

Historic Ottoman marketplace and trade center dating back to the 12th century, featuring a blend of Byzantine architecture across narrow cobblestone streets. It is the largest bazaar in the Balkans outside of Istanbul and remains a living hub for traditional crafts.
