Gythio Unmissables
Gythio serves as the historic port of Sparta, characterized by its neoclassical waterfront and the islet of Kranae. The coastline is marked by the rusted hull of the Dimitrios shipwreck on Valtaki Beach and the expansive sands of Mavrovouni, a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles. Shipwreck Dimitrios
A 67-meter cargo ship abandoned on Valtaki Beach since 1981. The rusted hull is easily accessible from the shore and has become a landmark of the Laconian coast.
