Černošice
Černošice is a small green town on the Berounka River, just southwest of the Prague city limits. From the late 19th century, the railway made it a popular summer resort for Prague families. Many of their villas still line the quiet streets, some designed by leading Czech architects such as Jan Kotěra.
Today it is mostly a calm commuter town, but it makes an easy half-day escape from Prague. Come for a riverside walk, a swim at the town beach, forest trails over the hills, and a local legend about Kazi, a daughter of the mythical ruler Krok. It suits walkers, cyclists and anyone who wants a quiet break from the city.

When to visit
Late spring to early autumn is the best time. Summer is warm enough for swimming in the Berounka, and the woods are pleasant for hiking. Winters are cold, often with frost and occasional snow, and the town is very quiet.
The biggest local event is the Mokropsy carnival (Mokropeský masopust) in February. Masked locals parade through Dolní Mokropsy with music, a Czech folk tradition before Lent.

Top sights
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the town's main landmark. First mentioned in 1352, it was later rebuilt in Baroque style and has a main altar from 1713.
Městská pláž Černošice lies on the Berounka in the Mokropsy part of town. In summer you can swim, sunbathe and play beach volleyball here.
The villa quarter along Dr. Janského Street shows the resort's golden age. It has villas by Jan Kotěra, Osvald Polívka and František Roith. A marked educational trail tells the story of the villas and their famous residents.
Kazín is a rocky hill above the right bank of the Berounka, with the remains of a prehistoric hillfort. Legend says it was the seat of Kazi, eldest daughter of Krok. The top gives a fine view over the river valley.
Všenorský dub is an old protected oak in neighbouring Všenory, about 2 km southwest of Mokropsy. It is estimated to be several hundred years old.

Getting there
- By train: This is the easiest way. Local S7 trains on the Prague–Beroun line stop at Černošice and Černošice-Mokropsy. The ride from Praha-Smíchov takes about 15 minutes. Tickets are part of the Prague integrated transport system; see PID Prague Integrated Transport for timetables and the ticket app.
- Onward to Karlštejn: The same line continues west along the river to Karlštejn, famous for its Gothic castle.
- By air: The nearest airport is Prague Václav Havel Airport. There is no direct link; travel via Prague and take the train from Praha-Smíchov, or take a taxi.
- By bike: Cycle route A1 follows the Berounka from Prague through Černošice towards Karlštejn.
