Lovech

Lovech Essentials

Lovech centers on the Osam River and the historic Varosha quarter. The city features the only covered bridge in the Balkans, designed by master builder Kolyu Ficheto, and the medieval Hisarya Fortress, the site of the 1187 peace treaty. Nearby, the Devetashka Cave offers a massive karst interior with seven distinct skylights. Cultural sites include the Virtual Water Museum, housed in a restored Ottoman bath, and the expansive Stratesh Park, home to the White Monument and one of Bulgaria's largest zoos.

The Covered Bridge

Built by Kolyu Ficheto between 1874 and 1876, this bridge connects the old Varosha quarter with the modern town. It houses traditional craft shops and souvenir stalls within its wooden structure.

Loveska srednovekovna krepost "Hisara"

A medieval stronghold where the peace treaty between Bulgaria and Byzantium was signed in 1187. The site features remains of churches, residential buildings, and a giant metal cross overlooking the city.

Devetashka cave

A massive karst cave featuring seven large openings in the ceiling. It has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era and currently serves as a protected habitat for thousands of bats.

Beliat pametnik

Located in Stratesh Park, this monument commemorates the Russian soldiers who died during the liberation of Lovech in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878.

Loveski zoopark

Situated in Stratesh Park, this is the second-largest zoo in Bulgaria. It covers 11 hectares and houses over 40 species, including lions, bears, and Siberian tigers.

Hudozestvena galeria - Lovec

This gallery manages a collection of over 2,000 artworks. The permanent exhibition displays Bulgarian paintings, prints, and sculptures from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Museum of water

Located in the restored 16th-century Deli Hamam Ottoman bath, this virtual museum uses multimedia projections to explore the history of water management and the building's original heating system.
