Miyakojima Essentials

Sunayama-Beach

Features a natural coral rock arch and white sand dunes. The beach is reached by a short trek over a sand hill and offers views of the East China Sea.

Ikema Ohashi

A 1,425-meter bridge connecting Miyako Island to Ikema Island. It spans shallow coral reefs, providing views of the turquoise water known locally as 'Miyako Blue.'

下地島の通り池

Two circular limestone sinkholes on Shimoji Island connected to the ocean via underwater caves. They are designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument.

Cape Nishihenna

The northwestern tip of Miyako Island, characterized by large wind turbines and panoramic views of the East China Sea, Ikema Island, and the Ikema Ohashi bridge.

竜宮城展望台

A three-story observation deck on Kurima Island designed to resemble the mythical Ryugujo undersea palace. It overlooks the seven-kilometer stretch of Yonaha Maehama Beach.

Makiyama Observatory

Located at the highest point of Irabu Island, this bird-shaped observation deck mimics the grey-faced buzzard. It offers views of the Irabu Bridge and the Miyako mainland.

Yukishio Salt Factory

A production facility for Yukishio, a fine-grain salt extracted from underground seawater filtered through limestone. The site includes a museum and a shop selling salt-based products.

Ogamijima

A small island accessible by ferry from Shimajiri Port. It is known for its sacred sites, traditional fishing culture, and unique mushroom-shaped rocks along the coastline.
