Nové Hrady Must-Sees

Nové Hrady features a dense collection of historical sites centered around the Buquoy family legacy. The town is home to a 13th-century Gothic castle, an Empire-style chateau, and a Neo-Gothic mausoleum. Nearby, the Terčino údolí landscape park offers an educational trail leading to an artificial waterfall and the Cuknštejn fortress, one of Bohemia's best-preserved late-Gothic strongholds. Religious landmarks include a Servite monastery and the historic Church of St. James the Greater.

Nové Hrady Castle

A 13th-century Gothic fortress near the Austrian border, significantly rebuilt after a gunpowder explosion and later served as the primary seat of the Buquoy family.

tvrz Cuknštejn

One of the best-preserved late Gothic fortresses in Bohemia, built between 1488 and 1491. It retains its original architectural character with a central courtyard and defensive features.

Zámek Nové Hrady

A three-wing Empire-style chateau built between 1801 and 1810. It was commissioned by the Buquoy family to serve as a modern residential alternative to the town's medieval castle.
