Castles and Ruins in Saga Prefecture

Saga Prefecture's feudal history is preserved through a diverse collection of fortifications ranging from ancient mountain strongholds to coastal Edo-period keeps. This selection features the reconstructed Honmaru Palace of Saga Castle, the largest wooden reconstruction of its kind in Japan, and the seaside Karatsu Castle, known for its views over the Genkai Sea. The list also includes the seventh-century Kii Castle ruins, an early example of a Korean-style mountain fortress, and the hilltop remains of Sasayama Castle in nearby Kurume.
