Glacial Lakes of the Tatras
The High Tatras contain over 100 glacial lakes, known locally as 'plesá' in Slovakia and 'stawy' in Poland. This collection features prominent tarns including Veľké Hincovo pleso, the deepest and largest in Slovakia at 53 meters, and Wielki Staw Polski, the largest in the Polish Tatras. These bodies of water were formed by retreating glaciers and are situated at various elevations, from the accessible Štrbské pleso to the high-altitude lakes of the Gąsienicowa and Five Polish Ponds valleys.
