Andrássy Avenue

Local nameAndrássy út
LocationTerézváros, Budapest

Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002, this historical boulevard is the main shopping and dining street in Budapest. If you want to browse through the goods in a Hungarian Louis Vuitton store, look no further.

The avenue has a reputation of being the most expensive street in Budapest, as it is packed full with high-end designer shops. These are mostly concentrated in the part of the street closer to the Oktogon Square. Further down along the street, you can find embassies and historical palaces. It is also where the famous Opera House is located.

Opened in 1876, and named after a 19th-century prime minister of Hungary, the avenue is a symbol of the development of Budapest as a modern metropolis.

The boulevard is approximately 2.5 kilometers long. If you do not fancy taking the 1-hour-long stroll to cross it fully, you can use the Millennium Underground Railway metro line instead, which has stops along the entire street.
