One of the most important squares in Budapest is located at the end of Andrássy Avenue. It was built in 1896 as a celebration of thousand years of Hungarian settlement in the Carpathian Basin.
Its dominant is the Millennium Monument (topped with the statue of Archangel Gabriel holding Hungarian Holy Crown of St. Stephen) and two identical colonnades decorated with the statues of important Hungarian political figures. There are also statues of seven chieftains that led their people to the Carpathian Basin for the first time (and in consequence established Hungarian nation) on the Millennium Monument.
There are also two museums located by the square – Museum of Fine Arts (with several sectors focusing on different art styles) and Palace of Art (concentrating on the modern art).
