Built in the 15th century as a trading centre for merchants, it is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture on the island.
La Llotja was constructed by a well known architect Guillem Sagrer between the years of 1420 and 1452. It looks like a cross between a church and a castle, and it was built originally as the headquarters of the Association of Markets. When you enter the building, notice the spectacular twin turrets and the pillars that spiral into the sky. La Llotja is now used as a centre for culture, where they hold exhibitions of local artists as well as classical concerts.
La Lonja can be visited when temporary exhibitions are held inside. During that time, it opens from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11.00 to 14.00, and from 17.00 to 21.00.
