Built in the 1730s, this Baroque palace was designed by the architect Robert de Cotte for Cardinal Armand Gaston Maximilien de Rohan-Soubise. Originally serving as the residence for the prince-bishops of the Rohan family, it is considered a significant architectural achievement of 18th-century France. The building is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The palace houses three major cultural institutions. The Museum of Fine Arts, situated on the first floor, displays a comprehensive collection of European paintings from the Middle Ages to 1870. This collection includes works by renowned masters such as Giotto, Botticelli, Rubens, and Goya. The site also contains the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Archaeological Museum.
The landmark is open to the public, offering access to its various museum collections, exhibitions, workshops, and guided tours. The palace was officially completed around 1742 and remains a central monument in the city's historical landscape.
