An example of Moorish architecture standing on the highest hill of Portugal. It dates back to the 10th century, although excavations show that first fortifications were built here much earlier.
It served as a royal residence in the past and now it is open to all visitors who want to learn about the city's history. It is also popular for the great views of the surrounding historical centre of the city. You should not miss the permanent exhibition housed in the palace that introduces culture and lifestyle from the 7th century BC through various archaeological artefacts.
You can enjoy a guided tour which is included in the ticket price. There are various language options to choose from at different times of the day.
