United Nations Headquarters

Local nameUnited Nations Headquarters
LocationManhattan, New York City, United States

The main headquarters of the United Nations is located on Manhattan and was built in 1952. Apart from this central one, the UN has several regional headquarters all over the world (in Geneva, Vienna and Nairobi).

If you wish to visit the complex, be sure to take your passport with you because the land on which the complex is located belongs to the UN and therefore you are technically leaving the US territory. Therefore there are quite strict security measures and security checks before entering the complex.

The UN tours provide information not only on the complex itself but also on history and aims of the whole United Nations. There are special Children’s Tours organised so do not hesitate to visit the place with your whole family.

During the regular tours, you may (depending on the schedule) see the official meetings in session or (if no meetings are being held at the moment) important rooms where the events usually take place (e.g. General Assembly Hall, Security Council Chamber or Economic and Social Council Chamber).

The tickets can be purchased online (if you want to avoid queuing).
