Completed in 1903, the largest Catholic church in the UK was designed in neo-Byzantine style. Be careful not to confuse it with Westminster Abbey which is located near the Palace of Westminster.
Its terracotta and white lining together with the architectonic style make it look rather exotic. This cathedral is also famous for its mosaics which were left unfinished by the original architect John Bentley. See how his successors did in finishing the decorations.
Music lovers will appreciate that the cathedral has its own choir. You can come for a concert or a Sunday recital, taking place weekly at 4:45 pm, free of charge.
See the official website for mass times.
Admission to the cathedral is free.
