Museums & Cultural Centers

This collection explores the industrial and cultural heritage of the Azores across several islands. It features Europe’s oldest tea plantations on São Miguel, UNESCO-recognized viticulture on Pico, and the volcanic history of Faial. Cha Gorreana Tea Factory

Europe's oldest tea plantation, operating since 1883. The museum showcases original 19th-century British machinery used to process black and green teas.

Whalers Museum

Whaling history museum housed in a 19th-century complex of former boat warehouses and blacksmith workshops. It displays specialized tools, equipment, and scrimshaw art created from whale bones and teeth.

Museu Carlos Machado - Núcleo de Santo André

Housed in the 16th-century Convent of Santo André, this is the oldest museum in the Azores. It features extensive natural history, sacred art, and ethnographic collections.

Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre

An underground facility located beneath a lighthouse buried by volcanic ash. It documents the 1957 eruption and the tectonic formation of the Azores.

Whale Museum

Housed in a former industrial plant, this museum preserves the machinery and vats used to process whale oil and flour on Flores Island.

Monte Brasil's Signal Station
