Agrigento's Essential Treasures

Agrigento showcases the architectural legacy of Akragas, one of the most prominent cities of Magna Graecia. The UNESCO-listed Valley of the Temples features remarkably preserved Doric structures, including the near-intact Temple of Concordia and the massive ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Beyond the archaeological park, the city’s medieval core holds the 11th-century San Gerlando Cathedral and the Monastery of Santo Spirito, known for its Chiaramonte-style architecture and Giacomo Serpotta stuccos. The Regional Archaeological Museum houses over 5,000 artifacts, including the iconic Telamon giant.

Valley of the Temples

Located in Agrigento, Sicily, this UNESCO World Heritage site preserves the remains of Akragas, one of the most influential Greek cities in the Mediterranean. The archaeological park features seven well-preserved Doric temples dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries BC. Highlights include the nearly intact Temple of Concordia and the massive ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The site also encompasses Hellenistic residential quarters, early Christian necropolises, and the lush Kolymbetra Garden.
