Zermatt's Unmissable Alpine Wonders

Zermatt centers around the 4,478-meter Matterhorn, a peak defined by its distinct pyramidal shape and mountaineering history. The car-free village features the historic Hinterdorfstrasse with 15th-century wooden chalets and the high-end shops of Bahnhofstrasse. High-altitude access is provided by the Gornergrat rack railway, reaching 3,089 meters, and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car, the highest in Europe. The Matterhorn Museum documents the region's first ascents, while the expansive ski resort connects Switzerland to Italy's Breuil-Cervinia.

Zermatt Peaks and Passes

Zermatt is surrounded by 38 peaks exceeding 4,000 meters, including the iconic Matterhorn and the Dufourspitze, the highest point in Switzerland. Zermatt Alpine Huts

This collection features high-altitude accommodations surrounding Zermatt, ranging from the modern, sustainable Monte Rosa Hut to the Capanna Regina Margherita—Europe’s highest building at 4,554 meters. These sites include both full-service Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) huts and remote emergency bivouacs like the Solvay Hut on the Matterhorn’s Hörnli ridge. Zermatt Cable Cars & Lifts

Zermatt’s extensive lift system provides access to the highest mountain station in Europe at 3,883 meters. The network includes the Matterhorn Glacier Ride, a high-capacity 3S cable car, and the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing connecting Switzerland to Italy.
