Its perfectly formed round design containing three turrets, makes this castle unique in Spain.
The castle was commissioned in 1300 by James II of Aragon. It was built by Pere Salva, the same architect who designed Royal Palace of La Almudaina and it took 11 years to complete. Originally, it was built to house the Kings and Queens of Mallorca, later it also served as a prison. In 1932 it became a museum housing the city's History Museum.
