Biogradska Gora National Park Essentials
Biogradska Gora protects one of Europe’s last three primeval forests, featuring trees over 400 years old. This selection centers on Biogradsko Lake, the largest glacial lake in the Bjelasica mountain range, and the high-altitude peaks of Crna Glava and Zekova glava. It highlights the region's 'katun' culture—seasonal mountain settlements like Vranjak and Raković—where traditional architecture and highland cuisine remain preserved. Access points include the park's info center and viewpoints like Bendovac, which offers a direct perspective of the virgin forest canopy.
Biogradsko jezero
The largest mountain lake in the park, situated at 1,094 meters. This glacial lake is surrounded by 500 hectares of virgin forest and features a 3.4-kilometer educational walking trail around its perimeter.
Bendovac
A mountain viewpoint located at 1,774 meters. It provides a panoramic view of the Biogradska Gora virgin forest and the emerald waters of Biogradsko Lake from above.
C Crna Glava
The highest peak of the Bjelasica mountain range at 2,139 meters. It overlooks several glacial lakes and is characterized by its volcanic rock formations.
Pešića jezero
A glacial lake located at 1,820 meters, tucked beneath the peaks of Crna Glava and Zekova glava. It is the second-largest lake in the Bjelasica mountains.
Eko-Katun Vranjak
An ecological mountain settlement at 1,800 meters, modeled after traditional Montenegrin 'katuns.' It provides wooden hut accommodation and traditional meals within the Bjelasica highlands.
Skulptura medveda
A wooden sculpture of a bear located near the shores of Biogradsko Lake, serving as a landmark near the park's main visitor area.
Zekova glava
A 2,117-meter peak recognizable by its prominent telecommunications tower. It sits directly above Pešića Lake and offers views across the central Montenegrin mountain ranges.
Info Center Biogradska
Located at the park entrance near Biogradsko Lake, this center provides maps, hiking information, and permits for activities within the protected area.
Katun Raković
A traditional seasonal settlement and restaurant serving authentic highland dishes like kačamak and cicvara. It is located on the hiking trails connecting the lake to the higher peaks.
