Artistic Installations

Dundee’s urban landscape is defined by public art that honors its industrial and creative history. This collection features the bronze Lemmings statues, celebrating the city's video game heritage, alongside maritime-themed works like the stainless steel Humpback Whale and the historic Whalebone Gate in Baxter Park. Lemmings statues

Three bronze figures climbing a stone wall on Perth Road. Created by Alyson Conway, they commemorate the 1991 video game Lemmings, which was developed in Dundee by DMA Design.

Humpback Whale Sculpture

A 22-meter-long stainless steel sculpture by Lee Simmons located at Slessor Gardens. The artwork references Dundee’s whaling heritage and the marine life found in the Firth of Tay.

Whalebone Gate

A historic archway in Baxter Park constructed from whale jawbones. It is a traditional Victorian feature reflecting the city’s 19th-century maritime and whaling history.

Tay Road Bridge Monument

A memorial commemorating the construction of the Tay Road Bridge, which opened in 1966. It honors the workers and engineers involved in the project.

Tay Bridge Sculpture

A memorial located at Riverside Drive dedicated to the victims of the 1879 Tay Bridge Disaster, situated near the site of the original rail crossing.

Brick Gable Mural

A large-scale public mural on a tenement gable end, created as part of the city's street art initiatives to revitalise urban spaces through the Open Close project.
