Grado Essentials

Grado, the "Golden Island," preserves a historic core built on a Roman castrum. The town features the 6th-century Basilica of Sant'Eufemia and the adjacent octagonal Baptistery, alongside the smaller Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie. Beyond the ancient center, the Grado Lagoon encompasses a vast ecosystem of canals and "casoni" (traditional fishermen's huts). The island's legacy as an Austro-Hungarian health resort continues at the Terme Marine, while the Costa Azzurra beach provides sandy access to the northern Adriatic.

Basilica of Sant'Eufemia

The Basilica of Sant'Eufemia is a minor basilica in Grado, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, formerly a cathedral.

Baptistry

A 6th-century Paleo-Christian octagonal structure located next to the Basilica of Sant'Eufemia. It contains a monolithic hexagonal marble font and fragments of original floor mosaics.

Laguna di Grado

A vast coastal ecosystem stretching over 12,000 hectares, characterized by mudflats, sandbanks, and small islands. It is home to traditional "casoni" (thatched-roof fishermen's huts) and diverse bird species.

Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie

The oldest church in Grado, originally dating to the 4th century and rebuilt in the 6th. The interior features well-preserved mosaic floor fragments at two different historical levels.
