This selection covers the UNESCO-listed Gunung Leuser National Park and the surrounding Karo highlands. It features the volcanic peaks of Mount Sibayak and the active Sinabung, alongside wildlife conservation hubs in Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan. Northern Sumatra’s landscape is defined by the volcanic activity of the Karo Highlands and the ancient rainforests of Gunung Leuser National Park. This selection features Mount Sibayak, an accessible stratovolcano with active steam vents, and the volatile Mount Sinabung. Within the dense canopy, the route includes the dual-toned waters of Air Terjun Dua Warna, colored by sulfur and phosphorus, and the 30-meter Sikulikap waterfall. The region serves as a critical habitat for Sumatran orangutans and includes unique geological formations like the limestone Ship Cave.
