Ancient Monuments in Lolland
Lolland’s landscape preserves significant traces of Denmark's prehistoric and medieval history. This collection features Refshaleborg and Ravnsborg, medieval fortifications dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, alongside Ålevad, a fortified farm once owned by the Bishop of Funen. The list also includes Højene, a vast complex of 43 Bronze Age burial mounds, and Høvængestenen, the island's largest glacial erratic deposited during the last ice age.
A Refshaleborg
A medieval fortification site established around 1100. The final construction phase of this defensive earthwork dates to the 1250s.
B Ålevad
The remains of a fortified farm dating from the late 13th century. It historically served as a residence for the Bishop of Funen.
C Ravnsborg Voldsted
A significant medieval castle site located on Lolland's northern coastline. The fortifications overlook the Smålandshavet and mark the site of a once-powerful stronghold.
D Høvængestenen
The largest glacial erratic on the island of Lolland, deposited by retreating ice during the last glacial period.
Højene
A group of 43 Bronze Age burial mounds covering approximately 12,000 square meters near Hejrede Sø.
