Sacred Religious Sites

This collection features significant Byzantine and early Christian sites centered around Madaba and Mount Nebo. Saint George Church

This 19th-century Greek Orthodox church houses the Madaba Map, a 6th-century floor mosaic representing the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the Holy Land, including Jerusalem and the Nile Delta.

Moses Memorial Church

Situated on the summit of Mount Nebo, this basilica protects the ruins of a 4th-century church and 6th-century Byzantine mosaics. It marks the traditional site where Moses viewed the Promised Land.

Shrine of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist

A Roman Catholic church featuring a bell tower with panoramic views of Madaba. The site includes an underground museum with an ancient Moabite well and vaulted structures from the Roman and Byzantine eras.

Church of Amos and Casiseos

Located in Khirbat al-Mukhayyat, this 6th-century Byzantine church contains floor mosaics featuring geometric patterns and depictions of animals, part of the ancient town of Nebo.

St Lot and St Procopius Church

A 6th-century church in Khirbat al-Mukhayyat known for vibrant floor mosaics. The artwork illustrates scenes of hunting, viticulture, and pastoral life, representing the Madaba school of mosaics.
