Natural Wonders of Moquegua

Moquegua's landscape is defined by the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, featuring active stratovolcanoes like Ubinas and the site of the massive 1600 AD eruption at Huaynaputina. The region extends from these high-altitude peaks to the Pacific coast, where the Punta Coles reserve protects marine wildlife. Inland, the flat-topped Cerro Baúl served as a Wari ceremonial center, while the Toquepala Caves contain some of Peru's oldest rock art, dating back nearly 10,000 years.
