Otavalo Essentials

Otavalo is centered around the Plaza de Ponchos, one of South America's most significant indigenous craft markets specializing in hand-woven textiles and Andean crafts. The town features colonial-era religious architecture, including the Iglesia de San Francisco and the Santuario del Señor de las Angustias. Beyond handicrafts, the Mercado Municipal 24 de Mayo offers local agricultural products and traditional Ecuadorian cuisine. Local monuments like Los Danzantes highlight indigenous heritage, while viewpoints provide perspectives of the surrounding Imbabura volcano and Andean landscape.
