Podersdorf am See is a village on the eastern shore of the Neusiedler See, in the Seewinkel region of Burgenland. The lake is a large, very shallow steppe lake on the Hungarian border, and Podersdorf is its main summer resort. The lake and the surrounding landscape form a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The village is flat, calm and relaxed. It is known for windsurfing and kitesurfing, cycling, bird watching and local wine. A red and white lighthouse by the lake is its best known landmark.

When to visit

June to September is best for swimming and water sports. The lake is warm and shallow, and the wind is steady. April, May and September are good for cycling and for birds. Autumn is wine season, and winter is quiet, with a frozen lake in cold years.

A car helps for the wider region. Roads are flat and quiet, but summer weekends bring traffic near the lake. Motorways in Austria need a vignette. Winter tyres are required in snow.
