Portrush Essentials

Portrush is Northern Ireland’s most prominent seaside resort, defined by its peninsula location and rich maritime heritage. The town is home to the world-famous Royal Portrush Golf Club, host of the Open Championship, and Curry’s Fun Park, a historic amusement destination. Visitors can explore the contrasting East and West Strand beaches, visit the Coastal Zone marine center, or dine at the harbor, which remains the hub of the town’s social life and seafood scene.

Curry's Fun Park

A traditional seaside amusement park featuring a vintage carousel, the Big Dipper, and family-friendly rides. Formerly known as Barry’s Amusements, it has been a landmark of the Portrush seafront since 1926.

Royal Portrush

A world-renowned golf club featuring the Dunluce Links and Valley Links. It is the only club in Ireland to have hosted the Open Championship, first in 1951 and again in 2019.

East Strand

A two-mile stretch of golden sand backed by extensive dunes. The beach is a popular site for surfing and connects to the Whiterocks coastal path, offering views of the Skerries islands.

West Strand

A Blue Flag beach located adjacent to the harbor. It features a paved promenade, views of the Donegal hills, and calmer waters suitable for swimming and paddleboarding.

The Playhouse

An independent cinema and entertainment venue on Main Street, screening a mix of contemporary blockbusters and classic films in a traditional setting.

The Harbour Bar

A historic pub overlooking the harbor, known for its traditional interior, wood-burning fire, and extensive selection of local whiskeys and draught beers.

Coastal Zone

A marine and nature discovery center featuring exhibits on local sea life, coastal ecology, and the history of the Northern Irish coastline. Entry is free to the public.

The White House

A landmark department store established in 1891, offering a variety of fashion, homeware, and a traditional café within a historic building in the town center.

Waterworld

An indoor water park located at the harbor, featuring multiple water slides, a pirate-themed play area, and an on-site ten-pin bowling alley.

Rinadree Point

A scenic headland located west of the town center, providing panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean toward the Inishowen Peninsula and the Giant's Causeway.
