Historic Churches & Landmarks

Charlotte Amalie’s historic district contains several of the Caribbean's oldest religious sites. The Saint Thomas Synagogue, founded in 1796, features traditional sand floors, while the Memorial Moravian Church dates back to 1755, originally serving the island's enslaved population. The Saint Thomas Reformed Church represents the island's first congregation, established in 1660. Nearby, the Gothic Revival All Saints Episcopal Church stands alongside Blackbeard’s Castle, a 17th-century Danish watchtower known as Skytsborg, which provided a strategic vantage point for colonial defense and legendary pirates.
