Iconic Alpine Huts and Shelters

Spanning the High and Western Tatras across the Slovak-Polish border, these alpine huts provide essential refuge and dining for hikers. The selection includes historic stone structures like the 19th-century Rainerova Hut and high-altitude shelters such as Chata pod Rysmi, situated at 2,250 meters. Many of these sites, located near glacial lakes like Morskie Oko and Green Mountain Lake, are supplied exclusively by mountain porters and serve as vital hubs for major trails including the Tatranská Magistrála.

Stare Schronisko PTTK Morskie Oko

A large stone hostel built between 1921 and 1925 in the Hala Gąsienicowa. It is a central hub for technical trails leading to Orla Perć and Kościelec.

Skalnatá chata

A year-round shelter at 1,751 meters, originally built as a stone hut in 1841. It is located near the Skalnaté pleso cable car station.

Chata pod Soliskom

The youngest high-altitude hut in the High Tatras, situated at 1,840 meters on the slopes of Predné Solisko. It provides services for both hikers and skiers.

Chata pod Rysmi

The highest mountain hut in the Tatras at 2,250 meters. It is open only during the summer season and is supplied entirely by mountain porters.

Žiarska chata

A key refuge in the Western Tatras at 1,285 meters. It serves as the starting point for ascents of Baranec and includes a nearby symbolic cemetery for mountain victims.

Bílikova chata

Located at 1,285 meters on the site of a former 19th-century hut. It offers easy access to the Cold Water Waterfalls and the Hrebienok funicular.

Ťatliakova chata

A seasonal buffet and shelter at 1,393 meters in the Roháče region. It stands by a small lake and houses a small mountain rescue exhibit.

Chata Zverovka

A year-round mountain hostel in the Western Tatras at 1,020 meters. It serves as a base for exploring the Roháče peaks and the nearby Brestovská Cave.

T

Chata Pod Náružím - Červenec

A smaller alpine hut at 1,420 meters in the Western Tatras, typically open on weekends and holidays. It is maintained by local volunteers from Bobrovec.
