Majestic Glaciers and Ice

New Zealand’s Southern Alps house a diverse range of glacial formations, from the famous maritime glaciers of Westland Tai Poutini National Park to the high-altitude ice plateaus of the Adams Wilderness Area. The Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers are rare examples of ice flows descending into temperate rainforests near sea level. In the Aoraki / Mount Cook region, the Mueller and Hooker Glaciers terminate in proglacial lakes, while the remote Garden of Eden represents one of the country's most extensive alpine ice fields.
