Žďárky
Žďárky is a small, quiet village in the hills of north-east Bohemia, about 3.5 km south-east of Hronov. Fewer than 600 people live here, along the Brlenka stream. The Polish border runs along the east and south edge of the village.
There is little to see in the village itself. It suits travelers who want a calm rural base for walking and cycling. Several marked cycle routes cross the village. From here you can easily visit the spa town of Kudowa-Zdrój in Poland, the theatre town of Hronov, and the castle town of Náchod.

When to visit
Late spring to early autumn is the best time for walking and cycling. Summers are warm but rarely hot, and rain is common in May and June. Winters are cold, with regular frost and some snow.
The biggest event nearby is the Jiráskův Hronov amateur theatre festival in Hronov. It runs for about nine days from late July to early August, with many free performances in the town. Book accommodation early if you plan to visit then.

Top sights
The best-known sights are just outside the village, on both sides of the border.
- Skull Chapel is about 2 km south-east, in the Czermna district of Kudowa-Zdrój in Poland. The small Baroque chapel from 1776 is lined with about 3,000 human skulls. Visits are short, and photos are not allowed inside.
- Szlak Ginących Zawodów is an open-air museum about 200 m from the chapel. It shows traditional crafts such as pottery, blacksmithing and bread baking, and it has a wooden windmill.
- Jiráskovo divadlo in Hronov is an interwar theatre building from 1930. It is the main venue of the Jiráskův Hronov festival.
- The birthplace of the writer Alois Jirásek is also in Hronov, close to the theatre. It is a small museum about his life.
- The Na Větrné horce lookout tower near Vysoká Srbská is about 2.5 km north of Žďárky. The wooden tower opened in 2020. In clear weather you can see the Krkonoše mountains and the Table Mountains in Poland.
- Borek hill (552 m) rises just north-east of the village and is a short walk for views over the border area.

Getting there
- By air: The main international gateway is Václav Havel Airport Prague, about 2–2.5 hours away by car. Wrocław Airport in Poland is a similar distance.
- By train: The nearest station is in Hronov, about 3.5 km away, on the regional line through Náchod. In Náchod or Týniště nad Orlicí you can change for Hradec Králové and Prague. Check times with České dráhy.
- By car: A car is the easiest way to reach the village and to visit sights on both sides of the border. Náchod is about 15 minutes away by road.
- By bike or on foot: Several cycle routes and marked trails cross the village. The Polish side, including the Skull Chapel, is easy to reach on foot.
