One of the iconic places of Venice (often nicknamed as La Salute) was built shortly after Venice was struck by the plague. The construction of the church was supposed to save the city from the Black Death and many of the artworks decorating the interior refer to the illness in some way. The very name of the church refers to it as well for Salute in Italian means Health.
The imposing Roman Catholic Baroque church has several altars inside, the main one featuring the statue called The Queen of Heaven Expelling the Plague. Even the lesser altars are all dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Before your visit, be sure to check the official website to see which events will be organised there during your visit. Since it is an active church, it might be closed to the public during Christian events.
