This legendary church is shrouded with many mysteries, for example on why the church was built in this exact spot.
Legend says that Jesus appeared in a dream of the bishop S. Magnus and told him to build it here. The interesting thing was that the city was not existent at that time - the whole area was just mud. But Magnus persisted and with help of other people he constructed a church in what later became the very heart of Venice.
However, the church we see today is different from the first one. It was completely rebuilt in the 16th century and since then serves as a religious centre for many believers.
The church has a magnificent and huge organ choir and case which draws the eyes of many. It also boasts decorations created by several renowned Italian artists, including Sansovino and Titian.
The church is very close to the waterbus station Rialto, lines 1 and 2.
