Built in the 16th century, this extensive complex used to be a royal residence of the Monarchy of Spain. It houses a church, monastery, royal palace and library. Be sure to visit also the Gardens of the Friars, adjacent to the monastery.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site makes for a perfect day trip from Madrid. Easily accessible by train.
