Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a huge shopping arcade in the heart of Milan (and also one of the oldest ones in the world), is a great place to visit even if you are not a shopaholic hunting for the latest Milan fashion.
The 19th-century neoclassical building (finished in 1877) is a jewel of Milan architecture. Its iron and glass roof is breathtaking at all times of the day.
It was named after the king Victor Emmanuel II. The king himself did lay the cornerstone of the building in 1865. Apart from the most luxurious fashion brand shops, there are many cafés and restaurants there.
If you decide to visit the gallery, be prepared for crowds of tourists. The place gets especially crowded during the Christmas period. You can get here by metro, station Duomo, lines 1 and 3.
The gallery is open 24/7, the opening times of shops vary.
