Nearby, the Etz Hayyim Synagogue preserves the heritage of the island's Romaniote Jewish community. On the Akrotiri Peninsula, the 17th-century Agia Triada Tzagaroli and the fortress-like Gouverneto Monastery showcase Cretan Renaissance style, while the abandoned Katholiko Monastery remains one of the island's oldest monastic sites.

Monastery Katholiko
