Takayama's Unmissable Heritage

Takayama features a well-preserved Edo-period merchant district known as Sanmachi Suji, characterized by dark wood architecture and sake breweries. The city is home to the Takayama Jin’ya, the only surviving provincial government office of the Tokugawa shogunate. Beyond the historic center, the Hida Folk Village showcases traditional thatched-roof farmhouses, while the Shinhotaka Ropeway provides access to the Japanese Alps. Japanese Alps Adventure

This collection highlights the rugged terrain of the Northern Japanese Alps near Takayama, featuring three of the nation’s 100 Famous Mountains: Mt. Norikura, Mt. Hotaka, and the iconic spear-tipped Mt. Yari. The list includes essential high-altitude alpine huts like Yaridaira Goya and Sugoroku Goya, which provide shelter and supplies for hikers traversing the Hida Range. Takayama Cultural Treasures

Takayama Mountain Views & Culture
